Nyan's HW guide for dummies Empty
PostSubject: Nyan's HW guide for dummies   Nyan's HW guide for dummies I_icon_minitimeWed Aug 24, 2011 5:01 pm

k here is a little half assed guide from me about how to use wiz/hw based on my own experiences and a few facts from irowiki for the closer details. usually i would enchant this with some screens but i have no hw on nro...

the class itself
we all know wizard from various games, movies and whatever bullcrap. in ragnarok they deal magical damage which is also ranged! and ranged is actually the cue for the point where many player fail using the class propperly. you cast from a safe distance, especially under the aspect that you are a sitting duck untill you either finish the cast or get hit which will eventually abort it. the imovability is a handycap that can make you look like a total retard as you cast lvl 10 sg without bragi on a monster which is aggressive and only 3 cells away!! also keep in mind that some monsters are cast sensors who get aggressive if getting aimed by single target spells.

equip
ok let's make this one quick. +9 lbw (the why will be explained below), nimble orlean's gloves, orlean's server, orlean's uniform, dex headgear with isilla card. garment and shoes are optional.

quick cast vs. damage output and why pure dex builds suck
you can divide hw basically into two general types - quick caster and pure damage dealer. these builds vary in the focus of dex/int if you put about 50 vit into the build (e.g. quick cast: 99 dex base, 50 vit, 80 int base/ damage: swap int and dex). a woe build would also require str... pure pvm/mvp can also go like 99 int/dex and rest vit but will be dependent on hw support for health and recovering from negative status alligments.

pure dex caster can output a lot of skills in shorter time, but on a lower damage output per spell. bragi support makes the need for dex over int rather obsolete. in my subjective opinion a mvp hw should focus on int since the major role is damage dealer. cast abortion can be easily prevented by using a orleans uniform. it is possible to surpass 2000 (twofackingthousand!!) matk and more with +9 lbw, 2x nog, blessing and amp! mind breaker will boost this up to 4k+...

some of the most important skills

storm gust
pretty much the most prominent wiz/hw skill. deals a good amount of damage but kicks monsters around which can be contraproductive for crowd control. it deals 10 hits in a row (3rd hit will freeze - causing the other 7 hits to miss/ exception: marc card user, undeads, mvp). sg does not stack! means if you cast sg on one area it will work till its duration is over and block overlaping sg in the time being. so it is totally pointless to cast sg on the same spot over and over again.

another rather defensive aspect is low lvl sg (1~3 depending on cast time) to temporally freeze monster, which will grand you time to advance as far as you dont want to waste time with every mob around. it's always nice to have low lvl sg somewhere among the hotkeys!

meteor storm
your best friend while in areas already coverd in sg. it stacks and causes stun - pretty damn good to nail banshees, venatus and so on. the skill isnt rly a "stand alone" damage dealing (in terms of total output outside of woe) skill due to its inconsistent hit behaviour (sorta random inside of one area) and the reduced effect on frozen foes but a great dps skill to hitlock.

jupiter thunder
your best friend on single and/or frozen targets. also helpfull to tear down specific sections of ice walls. little note for the pvp side: wind does not get reduced by valk shield, unlike fire and water based skills.

sight + sight thrasher

master this skill!! sight thrasher requires a precasted sight in order to work. it pushes monsters away which is mandatory to lock out monsters in bio3. sight thrasher is also a good ice wall breaker. the skill can serve to interrupt casts like asrua wich is highly annoying to champs.

energy coat
great to reduce received damage, however sucks your sp out with every hit. in the wrong moments you die with 0 sp. use with caution.

ice wall
sometimes the only thing between you and something that would like to kick your ass. boss type monsters will teleport away if they get hit by something from the other side of the wall (except maps with disabeld teleport). get familiar with the amount of icewall you can destroy with sight thrasher and use that instead of jt!

amp

increases matk by 50% at max lvl and lasts for 30 seconds. the skill will be "consumed" by the next skill casted. that includes energy coat which is of course totally useless and will force you to cast amp again. its ok to enchant the inital offensive cast but under bragi you might start without that to cut sp consumption by similar damage output (e.g. sg, amp, sg instead of amp, sg, amp).

ganbantein
this skill wipes out pretty much all supportive aoe skills casted (e.g. sw, landprotector, deluge and so on) which comes in handy on mvps with the ability to cast lp or other defensive stuffs. ganbantein will cut out a spot from lp as the are of effect outmatches it and makes the area accessable for offensive magic again. requires one yellow and one blue gemstone each cast.

quagmire
quag will slow down incoming enemies (except boss types) inside the area of effect. it also reduces dex on other player. can only be cast three times at once until it expires.

some basic behaviours

as already mentioned above, cast from a safe distance.

however you can cast sg on one area and approach monsters to catch their attention. if that happens you move into the area sg is working at to lure them into your attack. timing is key!

if you are outmatched or have to haste just freeze monsters with low lvl sg and move on.

if you have no time to cast even lvl 1 sg or it would be ineffective due to circumstances use sight thrasher to gain distance.

make yourself familiar with the elemental atributes of your enemies. it can't be stressed enough but elemental magic casted on the wrong property will fail! the sequential use of sg and ms comes in handy at this point. together it wont miss monsters despite of their immunity towards water or fire. wind and earth propterty monters will be hit but with less effect, though.

do not cast aoe skills on single monsters! you may attract the attention of monsters who would ignore you otherwise. use jt or fire bolt instead.

keep moving and avoid casting skills from the same spot. it helps maintaining the safety distance.

ok that's all for now. hopefully it helps some of you guys bounce
